However a significant difference was observed when CXCL12 mRNA relative expression was analyzed in breast cancer patients in accordance to the presence or absence of the CXCL12 rs1801157 allele A. Allele A breast cancer patients presented a mRNA CXCL12 expression about 2.1-fold smaller than GG breast cancer patients.

We were also unable to find a correlation between rs1801157 and different prognostic markers such as metastasis development or disease-free survival time.
Genetic polymorphisms in the 3'UTR region of the CXCL12 (rs1801157) and TP53 codon 72 (rs1042522) genes may contribute to susceptibility to childhood ALL because they affect some important processes, such as metastasis regulation and tumor suppression.

CXCL12 has been implicated in human carcinogenesis, but the association between the most-studied G801A polymorphism (rs1801157) and the risk of various cancers was reported with inconclusive results.
In summary, this study suggested that the SDF-1 rs1801157 polymorphism may serve as a risk factor for cancer development among Asians, especially an increased risk of urologic and lung cancers.
Taken together, the current findings suggest that the SDF1-rs1801157A/G gene variant may play an important role in relation to MI in this Iranian population.
In conclusion, our meta-analysis demonstrated that the rs1801157 polymorphism is not associated with the susceptibility to CHD but may be associated with a decreased risk of MI.
In summary, this study suggested that the SDF-1 rs1801157 polymorphism may serve as a risk factor for cancer development among Asians, especially an increased risk of urologic and lung cancers.
