Here, we have further studied the interactions between these two proteins, including two variants of XRCC1 (R194W and R280H) arising from single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that have been associated with elevated cancer risk in some reports.

Using the multifactor dimensionality reduction method, we found a model of gene-gene interactions associated with the risk of lung cancer: NBS1 (rs1805794)-XRCC1 (rs25487)-hOGG1 (rs1052133)-XPG (rs17655).
To analyze the relationship of GSTT1, GSTM1, XRCC1 (rs25487), ERCC1 (rs11615, rs3212986), ERCC2 (rs13181), XRCC3 (rs861539), OGG1 (rs1052133), and Alpha-1-Antitrypsin mutations (AAT) with the risk of lung cancer in never-smokers, and ascertain if there is an effect modification between these polymorphisms and residential radon exposure.
Statistically significant correlations were identified between 4 single nucleotide polymorphisms and the breast cancer risk: rs25487 rs4987188 rs13181 and rs799917.
Our findings suggest that XRCC1 rs25487 AA genotype and A allele, XRCC3 rs861539 T allele may have protective effects in breast cancer for Turkish population.

Statistically significant correlations were identified between four single nucleotide polymorphisms and the breast cancer risk: XRCC1-Arg399Gln, hMSH2-Gly322Asp, XPD- Lys751Gln and RAD51--4719A/T.
